MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT

ABOUT US

Why The Haven?

Because early adulthood should be full of possibilities—not roadblocks.

Since 2012, The Haven at College has been helping young adults navigate mental health and substance use challenges without stepping away from their lives, their education, or their future. What began as a bold response to an unmet need on college campuses has grown into a trusted, nationally recognized treatment program rooted in community, expertise, and compassion.

Now, at our newest program right here in Los Angeles, we’re not just helping college students—we’re here for all emerging adults who need support, structure, and connection while they grow through what they’re going through.

We believe recovery and growth shouldn’t mean isolation, interruption, or missing out. The Haven exists to ensure that young people can address what’s hurting without stepping away from everything else that matters.

College. Adulthood. Identity. Mental health. Relationships. Career paths.
We know… It’s a lot.

But The Haven was created for this exact moment in life. We meet young adults right where they are: academically, emotionally, and socially – so they don’t have to choose between getting support and living their lives.

We’re not a traditional treatment center (and we’re proud of that). The Haven is a space where young adults find understanding, structure, and connection among peers who truly get it. Our integrated model combines proven, evidence-based therapies with experiential practices that make treatment feel relevant, engaging, and real.

About Our Program

Where Healing Happens in Context (Not in Isolation)

At The Haven, treatment doesn’t mean stepping away from life. It means learning how to live it. We help our clients build the skills they need to manage relationships, responsibilities, and emotions with more clarity and confidence. Because our programs are outpatient, clients get to practice these tools in real time—at school, with family, with friends—while still having the support of a licensed clinical team behind them.

Our programs are specifically designed to address these challenges by focusing on ten pillars:

Academic Stress Management

Address academic pressures, such as managing deadlines, coping with exam anxiety, and balancing coursework with other responsibilities

Social Integration & Peer Relationships

Focus on the importance of healthy relationships and communication skills, including handling conflict, building supportive friendships.

Substance Use Psychoeducation

Address the risks and consequences of alcohol and substance use, which is prevalent in college settings, and provide strategies for making effective choices

Partnership with Academic Institutions

Collaborate with campus counseling centers and student services to ensure a cohesive support network

Digital Wellbeing

Address the impact of social media and technology on mental health and offer strategies for maintaining digital wellness

Life Skills Training

Discuss concerns such as financial literacy, getting along with roommates, and other practical skills that support independent living

Cultural Adjustment

Focus on the unique challenges of international students or those from diverse backgrounds who may experience difficulty adjusting to life so far away from home

Transitions to and From College

Address the unique challenges for students adjusting to college life, including first-year students and those returning after a break.

Study Skills and Time Management

Review effective study habits, time management, and organization skills tailored to the academic calendar

Workshops and Outreach

Conduct workshops and outreach events on campus to raise awareness about mental health, substance use and available resources

This comprehensive approach ensures that students can successfully navigate their lives while receiving the care they need.

What It’s Really Like

Voices of Alumni

The Haven program is just such an excellent one. It really takes into consideration the specific needs of students in a college setting.

You taught me to love myself. You taught me to take responsibility for my actions…. You showed me that I am my own worst enemy, but that I am also the creator of my destiny…. You saved my life.

The Haven at College Student

I wish to thank each one of you for coming to the aid of helping my son. The Haven became the “safe haven” for him and my husband and I are eternally grateful to you all.

The Haven at College Student

I tried for so long to figure all this stuff out about myself without talking to someone and was amazed by how it was I finally reached out for help that I was able to understand so much more about what was going on with me.
